The quality of paper will not affect the "performance" of your printer, but it will affect the quality of print.

For everday printing needs, the low cost paper is just fine.

Paper quality absolutely affects the print quality. I would never running anything less than 20lb paper through any printer.

Unless the paper is extremely dusty (all paper is dusty), it won’t hurt the printer.

Low quality paper might affect the "performance" in terms of how clear the image is, if you look closely, or expect really high resolution.

There is no legal requirement on who can say their paper is OK for laser printers so that isn’t good enough.

Laser paper has to be relatively smooth so it can go over the rollers and pick up the toner properly.
